10th song of the 20/20 project… half way there – Whoo hoo!

July 27, 2007

Well, here we are at the half way point 10 weeks into the 20/20 project – can you believe it?!

Last week was a bit of a departure from my normal approach in that I asked for specific suggestions for a 2nd verse for song 9. I was pleasantly surprised at what a creative lot you are! I have been overwhelmed by the response and the creativity.

I must apologize for not responding individually to all the responses simply because I got so many. As well as the comments here at my main blog many of you have emailed and messaged me through myspace – I’ve got a ton of material to work through.

Because last week’s song included an open invitation to suggest lyrics it means that if this song gets published then the suggestions that get included will be credited as co-writers.

By the way, I want to do more of this in the future.

This week it’s back to the regular critique approach. I’ve got a fairly complete (I think) first draft of a song for your feedback. Things like; is it singable, does it stick well to one theme, does it make sense lyrically?

As before leave me a comment via the comment link below the video.

Hi Andy, really love this one. Slightly more upbeat. I see in your video clip the banjo. As the song got underway, I thought how the banjo could be twanging tunefully as an accompliment, think that would work well. Also I as you sang the first verse I could visualise children (and grown-up children) ‘doing the actions’.
I think you are happy with this one, it reflected in the video clip. Keep up the good work Andy. God bless.

My daughter Taborah at age 7 has been following along and asked me if this one can be done in her childrens church, she was even doing motions to it. Its not just for kids, I was enjoying the joyful way it comes accross as well. She loves to dance and liked this one very much!
I could see easily a little solo part in between with some twang’n banjo like the other person said! Its a happy one for sure and I really like the guitar strumming which makes it sound different than some of others ones posted!

Keep it coming~ my family is really enjoying this and I need to go out and order the CDs you already made for them.

    THanks,
    Hadassah Paz

Hi Andy! This song is great! Maybe it because I was just at a youth conference, but when I listened to this one, I could imagine thousands of young people singing it to praise God! Keep up the fantastic work! You’re half way there! God bless you!

Hey man love the song but needs that banjo that is sitting next to you. This is one of your better ones. It goes smoothly and flows making you bob your head. Makes you think about the words that are being sung. God bless Ben

Hi, I saw your video on about life.com and though I would stop by and check it out. 20 songs in 20 weeks! Wow, that’s a challenge!

I like the theme – God’s amazing love. The song is simple enough.
Good chorus – its strong and bouncy. However I feel that the verses are letting it down a little by reusing old Christian cliches. Maybe that’s why its sounding like its for ‘children’. Maybe a reworking of some of the lines, but keeping the ideas will benefit the song.

For example: ‘unfailing love’, ‘how high, how wide, how deep is this love’, has been done 1000 times.

‘what can separate us from the love of god in christ’ is a bit clumsy.

I like the chorus, its catchy!

Great catchy tune. I could hear in my mind’s ear tambourine and shakers! There’s a kind of Oasis-y feel to the song in some ways and though, like Matt says, it’s heavy with cliche, I didn’t feel it mattered so much because, like Oasis, the song seems to be about keeping it simple and, maybe, the tune suits a simple lyric. I particularly felt that that ‘how high, how wide, how deep’ bits in both verses worked very well – they were like little exclamations and in context I think you get away with them because of that.

Yeah, I did like this one and would encourage you to experiment with the production on this if it makes the final cut – as whimsical as possible, in my opinion :)

What Others Are Saying…

Kathryn Scott'I've known Andy for 18 years - both as a worship leader in the church I attended as a teenager, and then as a friend and co-leader as we grew a little older together.

He is one of the most servant-hearted people I know. Few understand, and live out true worship like Andy - and I feel honored to serve with him because of it!

If you ever get the chance to have him come and lead at your church - or to listen to the songs that he has been writing - or to input as he explores the whole idea of writing as an online community (OpenSourceSongs.com) - I cannot more highly recommend that you jump at it. Andy really is one in a million - he's the real deal.' - Kathryn Scott

“God is all over that song… That song has the breath of God on it… it’s about what God wants to do now… that song is going to be sung with this move of God”
