Cave Song Story: Nickajack Pt.2 – What I did instead…

Last updated on

Ever felt overwhelmed and helpless?

Ever just wanted to just move on and leave the past and the pain behind?

The start of that process begins with a decision. A decision to be the change regardless of circumstances – and sometimes that begins with giving yourself a good talking to!

Our protagonist (Davy the harp player) in his cave song (Psalm 57) puts it this way; “Awake, my soul!”

We wrote this track from the perspective of someone immersed in a set of circumstances that appear overwhelming yet who chooses to audibly remind himself/herself the promises and dreams yet to be fulfilled.

Somehow our words can pull us into our future and help unlock the hidden things that fear and intimidation try to blind us from.

It’ a choice

Have a listen: (this is the one with the Tibetan prayer bowl!)

Lyrics (For chord charts go here)

Wake up, wake up my soul and sing
You’ve held your silence for too long
It’s time to find your voice again
Here comes the sound, Here comes the song

Everywhere I go I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song

Get up, get up! You sleepy head
Shake off the shadows of the night
The drowsy fog of fear has gone
Darkness dies in the newborn light

Everywhere I go, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song

Come on, come on! You dawning sky
Emerging shapes reveal the day
Light cascades upon the earth
Life is drawn out of the clay

Everywhere I go, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song

Everywhere I go, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song

Everywhere I go, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song

Everywhere I go, I’ll be your song
Everywhere I go, I’ll be, I’ll be your song

What Others Are Saying…

Kathryn Scott'I've known Andy for 18 years - both as a worship leader in the church I attended as a teenager, and then as a friend and co-leader as we grew a little older together.

He is one of the most servant-hearted people I know. Few understand, and live out true worship like Andy - and I feel honored to serve with him because of it!

If you ever get the chance to have him come and lead at your church - or to listen to the songs that he has been writing - or to input as he explores the whole idea of writing as an online community (OpenSourceSongs.com) - I cannot more highly recommend that you jump at it. Andy really is one in a million - he's the real deal.' - Kathryn Scott
